Position: Copywriter
Location: Dulles, VA
Southland Industries is one of the nation's ten largest mechanical contractors providing full design, construction, fabrication, service and maintenance for HVAC, process piping, plumbing, fire protection, controls and automation. We are currently searching for an experienced Copywriter to collect, research, and write content for our internal and external audiences.
The Copywriter will use a variety of communication platforms including: print publications, electronic newsletters, intranets, websites and other multimedia. The Copywriter will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications and will assist internal departments with the development of key messages, organizational and strategic updates, technical articles, proposal writing and other copy as needed. Please note: this position requires a portfolio.
Required Skills & Experience:
•Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Journalism or English preferred
•Three or more years of experience producing copy in a variety of mediums (i.e. proposals, press releases, brochures, multi-media, incorporating SEO principles into copy, web page content, and story boards)
•Agency or corporate in-house multiple platform copywriting experience preferred
•Ability to provide concept to completion copy including research, writing and editing of documents ranging from simple copy to technical proposals
•Outgoing persona with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills AND ability to interact with all levels of an organization
•A technical writing background is preferred but not required (i.e. copy prepared for pharmaceutical/bio-medical companies or companies within the architectural/engineering and/or construction space)
•Curious nature, must be a seeker of projects
•Excellent working knowledge of both Mac and PC platforms including the ability to convert files on both platforms
•Superb proof reading abilities with portfolio examples
•AEC certification or experience working for an AEC certified company is a major plus, but definitely not required
