Job Description
The Digital Media Group is
seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a development team that will architect, implement, and maintain various web applications for the National Football League's Fantasy Football Platform. The web applications include high volume, public facing transactional websites, internal tools, and backend processes. This position requires interaction with internal and external development, infrastructure, quality assurance, and both project and product management teams. The candidate should have experience leading and mentoring engineers, require little oversight, and have a passion for technology and Fantasy Football.
Job Responsibilities
Manage the technical team responsible for day-to-day operations of the Fantasy Football Platform
Participate in the planning of the overall roadmap requiring estimation and project planning.
Spend a portion of time working hands on to build applications and various integrations for Fantasy Football
Work with 3rd party companies on joint implementations and integrations
Design, develop, test, and support new and existing, custom software applications for the league's digital media business
Work closely with other groups within the NFL.
Meet aggressive performance and scalability goals to address unique traffic patterns and emergence of new technologies
Guide and mentor other engineers on architecture, implementation and advanced technologies
Participate in the development and preparation of software documentation
Implement and run an appropriate support model for the platform.
Required Qualifications
The candidate should have a BS, BA, or advanced degree in computer science or relevant work experience
5-7 years of experience leading, managing and mentoring software engineers
5-7 years of expertise with PHP (Zend), MySQL, Linux
Experience with YUI and/or other Javascript based frameworks.
Experience with Java web based technologies
Experience leveraging top-tier Content Delivery Networks (CDN), such as Akamai, to optimize site performance
Experience implementing content and data caching strategies
5-7 years of progressively responsible related technical experience
Proven experience building complex, high-traffic web applications

Strong teamwork and ability to effectively communicate with various business stakeholders, both internal and external
Ability to meet aggressive implementation deadlines

Apache, Linux experience required
Application Design/Architecture a must
Ability to operate effectively in a team-oriented and collaborative environment
Must demonstrate solid verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of sports and experience in online media preferred a plus
Experience with Fantasy Football or Fantasy Sports.
